Immerse yourself in local history and nature's beauty at "New York City's Most Unexpected and Extraordinary Destination"

A guided tour is a wonderful way to experience Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden. Explore the history of this New York City landmark as you enjoy breathtaking vistas of the botanical gardens. Guided tours are available Monday through Sunday from 11:00 am - 3:30 pm. Tour hours are extended to 4:00 pm during the summer months.

Set among 83 acres of beautiful parkland, Snug Harbor is home to widely acclaimed botanical gardens, the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art, Visual and Performing Arts divisions and an Education Department; all of which serve various cultural interests. Other independent organizations including the Staten Island Children's Museum, the Noble Maritime Collection and the Art Lab, also call Snug Harbor home. This site is the future location of the Staten Island Mueum as well.

Founded in 1801 by Robert Richard Randall as a residence for retired seamen, Snug Harbor has become one of the largest adaptive reuse sites in the United Stated. Snug Habor, as we know it, is the result of over thirty years of building restoration and program development, which has earned the cultural center the distinction of being a New York City and a National Historic Landmark as well as Smithsonian Affiliate.
