Call for Art

FLUID 2015 call for art

The Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art invites artists working in all disciplines to submit applications for FLUID an exhibition that explores the theme of water. Works may explore conservation, commodification of water, pollution, depictions of water as a subject and/or incorporate water aesthetically or as a formal element. Four or Five public-art projects and fifteen works of art will be presented in the galleries during Spring/Summer of 2015. Public-art projects selected for exhibition on the North Lawn will receive a $2,000 honorarium. Artists’ projects selected for inside the galleries will receive a $200 honorarium.

Guest Juror: Jesse Hamerman, Director of Exhibitions, Public Art Fund.

Eligibility: Open to all artists 18 and over. All work must ready to display. Work must be original and completed in the last five years. Currently enrolled students are not eligible.

Applications: Artist may submit 3 images for consideration. There are no fees to apply. Applications may be mailed, dropped off or sent via email. Digital entries preferred and should be sent to [email protected]. Images may be submitted as either jpg files on a disk, 8.5×11” color print outs or emailed as attachments. All jpg image files must be less than 1000×1000 pixels and 72dpi. Videos/films/performance should be submitted as either a DVD or a link to a website with video.

Notification: Artists will receive notification by Tuesday, February 24. If selected, art must be delivered by Mon, April 6. Each artist will receive an honorarium, a batch of invitation postcards in addition to an electronic file for social media marketing. The exhibition will open on Saturday, May 2 and be on view through Sunday, December 13, 2015

ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY 11:59pm – Monday, February 16, 2015.

Mailed applications must have a postmark by or before Saturday, February 14, 2015. Artists are encouraged to mail applications one week prior to the deadline. A February 16th postmark will not be accepted. Artists may also drop off applications Wednesday through Sunday 11am to 4:00pm at Snug Harbor Visitor Center, Building C (1000 Richmond Terrace/Staten Island, NY 10301).
