The Mixtec people are the third largest group of native Mexican peoples. They call themselves the Ñuu Savi, “People of the Rain.” Their homeland is the Mixteca, a region that occupies the western half of the Mexican states of Oaxaca, Guerrero and Puelba. The carnival will celebrate the cultural diversity of the people of Mixtec origin who live and work on Staten Island. It will showcase traditional music, dance, and food from the Mixtec Region. Part of the Ñani Migrante Transnational Project.
