Nattie + Hollis are “decomposing” dances that have significantly impacted our personal dance lineage, sourcing from music videos, iconic moments of pop culture and their post-modern dance training. In this workshop, you’ll learn these dances and source from the group’s collective movement lineage to recompose our own collaged polytheistic dances. We’ll discuss the impact these movement sequences have on us as movers, allowing for a reimagining of how dance exists in our spaces and in our bodies.

Nattie + Hollis recognize that everyone who attends this workshop has knowledge that is vital and necessary for building these spaces together. We work to craft the container for our workshops, while making space for varied contents. Our teaching practice does not have definitive answers, but rather leaves us with questions which we are asking ourselves, the spaces we hold, and the world around us. Anyone with a movement practice is welcome to join.
Nattie Trogdon + Hollis Bartlett are partners in both life and their creative endeavors. Based in Lenapehoking / Brooklyn, NY, they construct dance works, films and research-based practices aimed to disrupt assumptions of performance and personhood. Their collaborations have been presented at Gibney, CPR, Coffey Street Studios, Duo Multicultural Arts Center, No Theme Festival, Earthdance, Brick Alley Block Party at Garner Arts Center, The Long Time Texas, Future Dance Festival at the 92nd Street Y, Motion State Dance Festival, Mobile Dance Film Festival, The Dance Complex, and the School for Contemporary Dance and Thought. They have developed their work through artist residencies at Marble House, The Atlantic Center for the Arts, The Visionary, MOtiVE Brooklyn, Mana Contemporary, and the Tisch Summer Dance Residency at NYU and have received support through the New Directions Choreography Lab at The Ailey School. Their performing and teaching practices are deeply tied into their dance making. As performers, they’ve worked with Doug Varone, Kathy Westwater, Brian Brooks, Joanna Kotze, David Dorfman, and Keith Johnson. They’ve been guest artists at NYU, Swarthmore College, and SUNY Brockport and their work has been commissioned by Roger Williams University, University of Maryland, and Salem State University. Currently they are artists-in-residence at LMCC’s Arts Center at Governors Island and are adjunct faculty at SUNY Purchase and Montclair State. https://nattieandhollis.com/
