Calling all mermaids, mermen, and salty sea captains! On July 27, PopRally washes up on Staten Island’s north shore at Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden for an evening culminating in a screening of the 1984 mermaid classic “Splash” with Rooftop Films and MoMAFilm.
WHERE: South Meadow at Snug Harbor
Before the film, enjoy trivia contests, prizes, local food vendors, a set by DJ Tom of MakerPark Radio, and special appearances by The Gotham Easy Brass Band courtesy of HONK NYC and the Wu Tang Clams mermaid krewe.
Tickets are $10 (free for MoMA and Snug Harbor Cultural Center members) and include open bar (21+), DJ set, and film screening. Food by local Staten Island vendors will be available for purchase. Doors open at 7:00 p.m., with the screening to follow at 9:00 p.m. Aquatic costumes are highly encouraged, but not required. Rain date is July 28.
This is the second event of MoMA PopRally × New York, a creative journey across New York City. From Staten Island to the Bronx, MoMA is heading to each of the five boroughs to explore local art, music, food, film, and more while MoMA is temporarily closed for renovations.
