Emma Alabaster is a bassist, vocalist and composer, born-and-raised in Brooklyn, living in in Staten Island, and working throughout NYC as a musician and educator. With drummer Leo Ferguson, she co-leads decibelists, an experimental anti-gentrification pop band and has worked with poet Cornelius Eady as musical director for his band, and in collaboration with many musicians and artists. Emma also works as an arts educator in NYC schools, shelters and community centers through organizations like Lincoln Center and Brooklyn Arts Council, and as a health educator in medical schools. She leads songs and chants at protests and prefers to write songs while riding the subway.
For this Newhouse After Dark performance, Emma will be sharing original songs and covers as intimate works-in-progress on upright bass, guitar, keyboard and vocals.
