PASS: Open the Doors by Hilary Hawke and Claude & Ola

Open the Doors is an achingly beautiful performance and soundscape by musicians, Hilary Hawke and Claude & Ola.  This work in progress allows the listener to use imagery and fantasy through washes of sound, and silence to discover within ourselves the possibilities that exist for experiencing change and transformation into what helps us to survive.

WHERE:  Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art, Main Hall Gallery (Building C)

The music features rich, full piano chords, shifting layers of synthesizer drones, and virtuosic banjo lines.  Inspired by the imagery of mountain laurel, twisting vines, and greenery, the collaboration of Ukrainian born visual artist/pianist Ola Aldous, punk rock turned abstract sound designer, Claude Aldous, and professional composer/banjoist Hilary Hawke use repetition of melodic patterns and expressive melodies to reveal beautiful and sometimes dissonant harmonies that invite us to question our behaviors as we struggle to grow within the chaos of the world around us.

Half of the story, and the album has been composed. The group will be working on more of music while inspired by the landscape, gardens, and history of Snug Harbor.
