Choreographer Ivy Baldwin’s latest work is Welwitschia (working title), a dance for the new Chocolate Factory Theater. A quartet for Katie Dean, Kayvon Pourazar, Saúl Ulerio and Baldwin, with an original score by long-time collaborator Justin Jones, this new work mines concepts of deep time, transmitted evolutionary knowledge, and solastalgia (existential distress caused by environmental change)—embracing the challenge of making ephemeral art about existential ideas. Disparate concepts are intentionally structured to collide with each other in the form of movement, sound, images, and narratives.
