Over the next 18 months, the NYC Compost Project make them into compost for New York City parks, green spaces, and residents like you!

The fun doesn’t stop there: we will also have a cooking demonstration highlighting delicious fall flavors and zero waste cooking, and crafts and activities for the kids, as well as a fun DJ. While at the event, visit with the NYPL South Beach and other partners for some goodies.

We’ll also be distributing brown leaf bags to collect your yard waste this fall.

Can’t make it? You can bring your jack-o-lanterns and other food scraps to the Snug Harbor food scrap drop-off site every day, dawn to dusk.

For a map of Food Scrap Drop-offs, visit nyc.gov/dropfoodscraps.

This event is organized by NYC Compost Project Hosted by Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden.

The NYC Compost Project, created by the NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) in 1993, works to reduce waste in NYC and rebuild NYC’s soil by providing New Yorkers with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities they need to produce and use compost locally. NYC Compost Project programs and staff are funded and managed through the DSNY Bureau of Recycling and Sustainability (BRS) in partnership with host institutions.
