Queer Van Kult is a liturgy of performance, installation, and music with a focus on queer artistry and multimedia work. Imagined as a surreal funhouse of queer taste, Queer Van Kult was created as a response to a tapering of dedicated platforms for avant-garde performance and art on Staten Island. Queer Van Kult: Revelation transforms Newhouse Gallery into a fully immersive dreamscape that subverts the societal narrative in which to be queer is to be “othered.”
The events presented and produced by the collective encourage an atmosphere of community, unbounded creativity, and celebration—all while providing a home for the cultivation of experimental works by local and emerging artists beyond. QVK is founded and curated by Rachel Fox, Nicie Mok, Jenno Snyder, and Zoë Tirado.
The mission of the Pride Center of Staten Island is to enhance and sustain the well-being of the LGBTQ+ and allied communities by providing programs and services that cultivate community; advocate for LGBTQ+ interests; educate and empower, and provide social support.
PrideFest 2022 will celebrate the rich diversity of our LGBTQ and allied community by featuring several PrideFest trademark events as well as several events held by our Community Partners.
All live events will follow COVID-19 protocols. New York City reached a High COVID-19 Alert Level on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. In an abundance of caution, this event will require all visitors to wear a mask at all times while inside the venue (with the exception of performers who may opt to perform maskless during a live event).
Please note there are limited options for attendees with mobility impairments to access to the historic, landmarked Main Hall Gallery. There are steps at the front entrance. You can take the elevator from the entrance to Building G at Shinbone Alley, though there are several steps to enter the Main Hall Gallery from this entrance. If you have accessibility needs, please email Shawna, Arts Production & Gallery Manager at ssalmon@snug-harbor.org at least 2 business days in advance of the event.
QVK: Revelation is made possible through generous support from the Samuel I. Newhouse Foundation, the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature, and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
