SHDF Performance: The Carpet Series by Pigeonwing Dance

Pigeonwing Dance’s Carpet Series is a compact outdoor performance taking place on a 5×8 Persian carpet in parks and on sidewalks across NYC. Showcasing the talents of five highly trained contemporary ballet dancers and a rotating array of solo live musicians, it is rich in choreographic detail, complexity and virtuosity.

WHEN: August 7 | 5:30 PM, 6:00 PM, 6:30 PM, and 7:00 PM
WHERE: RCSF Tuscan Garden
ADMISSION: Free

The Carpet Series premiered in July 2020 and has been performed more than 100 times to date, including during a month-long residency at the New York Botanical Garden. It has been featured in the New York Daily News and DANCE Magazine, where critic Nancy Wozny observed, “the geometric patterns of the Persian rug echo and amplify Lamb’s idiosyncratic movement vocabulary, which is both intensely intricate and unusually syncopated.”

Featuring dance classes, site-specific performances, workshops, and a showcase of Staten Island choreographers, the Snug Harbor Dance Festival on August 6 – 7 creates space for artists and communities to get inspired, create, and connect through movement.

The Snug Harbor Dance Festival is generously sponsored by Kevin Chau. This program is made possible with support from Samuel I. Newhouse Foundation, The New York State Council on the Arts, with the support of the Governor and the New York State Legislature, and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
