Three Friends of Winter Tour

Discover why the pine, bamboo, and plum–the “three friends of winter”– are so deeply valued in Chinese culture. In the New York Chinese Scholar’s Garden and culturally, the Three Friends of Winter are grouped together because they flourish during that season.

Learn how these botanicals represent the ideal characteristics of the scholar and embody the Confucian virtues of endurance, modesty, and fortitude. Dress warmly and for walking outside.

At this time of year, this tour may be cancelled for inclement weather. Please keep an eye on your email if there is significant snowfall in the week prior. If we must reschedule the tour, your ticket can be exchanged for another event with our Education department.
