Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden will partner with the Pride Center of Staten Island to produce Rainbow Road at Snug Harbor on Sunday, June 28 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Participants, including elected officials, organizational leadership, community partners, select local artists in the LGBT community, will create a chalk mural down Cottage Row at Snug Harbor with rainbows, pride flags, and messages of support. This interactive and impactful event will commemorate and celebrate Global Pride Day and bring our community together.
“We were founded as a safe haven, a “snug harbor,” and it is our goal to live out that legacy to make sure that ALL communities find joy, hope and solace here,” said Aileen Fuchs, President & CEO of Snug Harbor. “Though the annual Pride Fest at Snug Harbor was cancelled this year, we were excited to think outside the box on alternative ways to activate our campus with support for Pride. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with our friends and partners at the Pride Center to amplify our shared values of community and inclusivity.”
“Every year Staten Island comes together to celebrate Pride for the LGBTQ community and allies. This year, the Pride Center of Staten Island had to hold our annual PrideFest festival virtually instead of the annual event at Snug Harbor,” said Carol Bullock, Executive Director of the Pride Center of Staten Island. “We are so proud that our allies and partners at Snug Harbor thought of a way to show support through an engaging and interactive event! We hope it inspires our community and beyond to be kind, show love, find a way to make our community better, more accepting and tolerant, and speak out against bigotry and discrimination.”
