Snug Harbor Announces New Summer Tours

Rediscover Snug Harbor’s art, architecture, history, horticulture, and Heritage Farm

Staten Island, NY – Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden is proud to announce a new schedule of guided tours this summer on Saturdays from June through September.  Visitors can take their choice of the Art and Architecture Tour, the History and Mysteries of Snug Harbor Tour, and four different seasonal Heritage Farm and Horticulture tours.

“I could not be more excited to kick off our brand new guided tours at Snug Harbor,” says Aileen Fuchs, President & CEO of Snug Harbor.  “Whether you’re new to our campus or a regular visitor, our tours offer fresh and immersive experiences for everyone.  Where else can you explore landmarked architecture, botanical gardens, an organic urban farm, and stunning visual and performing art venues all on one site? Join us to discover—and rediscover—the past, present, and future of Snug Harbor every Saturday this summer.”

All tours begin at the Visitor Information Booth on Chapel Road near the Carl Grillo Glass House with $10 admission ($8 for Snug Harbor Members and seniors).  Visit snug-harbor.org/tour for details and ticketing.  Tour attendees will enjoy a 10% discount at Snug Harbor’s on-site café Harbor Eats when they present their tour ticket through September 30, 2018 (subject to Harbor Eats operating hours).

Art & Architecture Tour: Tours begin at 11:00 AM

Hear the fascinating stories behind the architecture that put the former Sailors’ Snug Harbor on the map.  Learn about the people responsible for 28 historic buildings dating from 1833, including six of the first New York City Landmarks and one of the finest collections of Greek Revival architecture.  Visit Snug Harbor’s Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art and learn how Snug Harbor continues its role as a major art destination on Staten Island.

History and Mysteries of Snug Harbor Tour: Tours begin at 11:00 AM

Hidden time capsules, statues, murder, ghost sightings and more!  This tour through Snug Harbor’s 83-acre site reveals the history of our 19th century campus alongside tales of strange occurrences and mysteries on our grounds.

Heritage Farm Tour: Tours begin at 2:00 PM

Snug Harbor’s Heritage Farm is a better-than-organic 2.5 acre sustainable urban farm, now in its seventh growing season.  Go behind the scenes at the farm with four different tour options as the seasons change.
