Turn & Learn Compost Work Day (NYC Compost Project)

The best way to learn about compost is to make it, and attending our Turn & Learn will make you a pro. Bring a water bottle, wear closed-toe shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. If you help us make compost, you can take compost. Please bring your own container.  Please note this is a volunteer event and not a pick-up event. You must volunteer at the work day to receive compost. Supplies may be limited. Registration is strongly recommended.

The NYC Compost Project, created by the NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) in 1993, works to rebuild NYC’s soils by providing New Yorkers with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities they need to make and use compost locally. NYC Compost Project programs are implemented by DSNY-funded teams at seven host organizations, including Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Big Reuse, Earth Matter NY, Lower East Side Ecology Center, Queens Botanical Garden, Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden, and The New York Botanical Garden. Winter Evergreen Walk

Tour Snug Harbor and see the different types of broadleaf and needle leaf evergreens growing on the serene grounds.  The Winter Evergreen Walk includes the Pond Garden, the New York Chinese Scholar’s Garden, Tuscan Garden, White Garden, and many various specimens of trees on the grounds.  Please dress appropriately for an outdoor walk.

Art Lab: Artists’ Reception for 16th Annual Open Show

This is Art Lab’s annual community open call show and will feature art from both professionals and first-time exhibitors.  The exhibition is open to all! Staten Island School of Rock presents: Winter Concert Event

The Staten Island School of Rock will be hosting an incredible event packed with one hundred of our finest students performing songs we all know and love. Watch these Rockstars come alive in front of an enormous crowd, many who have never played such a beautiful stage like the one at the Snug Harbor Music Hall! Come by and support our Rockstars and witness the talent of so many children who live in our incredible community! We promise you won’t be disappointed…what better way to spend a Sunday afternoon?!

Noble Maritime Collection: Sea Shanty Session

Led by the Folk Music Society of New York, this program is really gaining in popularity and offers a great opportunity to experience authentic, time-honored maritime songs in an appropriately historic setting. The sessions are free and family friendly, and you are encouraged to sing along if the mood strikes you! If you can’t make it this weekend, we hold a session on the third Sunday of every month.

Staten Island Museum: Access Art for All Sunday Art Studio: Lenape Workshop

Staten Island Museum: Access Art for All Sunday Art Studio: Lenape Workshop

Teens and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families learn about the first people of Staten Island while experiencing Lenape culture through artifacts, authentic materials, and hands-on activities. Sunday Art Studio is part of Access Art for All, a programmatic partnership with the Staten Island Children’s Museum, the Staten Island Zoo, and the GRACE Foundation of New York, with support from a CreateNYC Disability Forward Fund grant from the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs.
