Chinese New Year in 2023 starts on Sunday, January 22 and ends on Thursday, February 9, 2023. These roundtable discussions are an opportunity for you to have your unique perspective as a dance worker or organization recognized and provide the dance community with a better understanding of the size, makeup, health and state of the dance ecosystem in order to address economic inequities in the field. Your participation will help Dance/NYC influence and advocate for meaningful change in policies and practices that directly impact the dance industry, its many workers and organized entities.

Data collected will be analyzed by Dance/NYC and presented in aggregate form in Dance/NYC’s State of NYC Dance research report, to be published in Fall 2023.

COVID-19 Safety: Masks and proof of vaccination/or proof of negative test results are required. Learn more about Dance/NYC’s COVID policy.

PASS Open Studio – SATURN: A Revelation (work in progress)
Feb 12 @ 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM

What would humanity be responsible for after we’ve abolished all systems of oppression? This is the guiding question for J. Bouey and George Del Barrio while in residence creating SATURN: A Revelation, a hologram-like dance performance from a distant future at the precipice of abolishing all systemic oppression. They have set up live performance camera obscuras in the four gallery spaces in Building G that create hologram-like images that are unlike anything you’ve ever seen.

WHEN: February 12 | 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM | Attendees must register for a 30-minute time slot.
**Please note that this an event with timed entry. We recommend that you arrive at the start of the timeframe that you register for, to experience the work in full.

WHERE: Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art at Snug Harbor | Building G

ADMISSION: Free | Registration required here

This event will be live broadcasted by the MIDHEAVEN Network.

J. Bouey is the founder of The Dance Union Podcast, initiating the NYC Dancers COVID-19 Relief Fund and The Dance Union Town Hall For Collective Action to support the dance community through numerous world-changing events. As a creator, J. is a recent 2021-2022 Jerome Fellow and is a 2022/2023 Movement Research Artist in Residence. J. Bouey was also recently a Gibney 2021 Spotlight Artist, Artist-In-Residence at CPR – Center for Performance Research, and 2021 Bogliasco Fellow. As a 1st-generation American and all-media Creative/ Technical Producer deeply versed in photographic physics, George Del Barrio’s practice is concentrated on archetype expansion. A resolute humanism informs each site-responsive design; every curatorial invention & environmental transformation is in search of duende… Meaning is not a discovery, it is a creation. Born 1976 Queens, NY; Founding Creative Director × Executive Producer The Vanderbilt Republic (2008-present) + MIDHEAVEN Network (2020-present); Creative Director × Executive Producer Universe City NYC (2021-present).

Please note: the attendance list for this event will be shared with the artist team to stay connected with you on future events. If you do not wish to have your contact information shared, please indicate that in the comments field on the registration link.
