What would humanity be responsible for after we’ve abolished all systems of oppression? This is the guiding question for J. Bouey and George Del Barrio while in residence creating SATURN: A Revelation, a hologram-like dance performance from a distant future at the precipice of abolishing all systemic oppression. They have set up live performance camera obscuras in the four gallery spaces in Building G that create hologram-like images that are unlike anything you’ve ever seen.

J. Bouey is the founder of The Dance Union Podcast, initiating the NYC Dancers COVID-19 Relief Fund and The Dance Union Town Hall For Collective Action to support the dance community through numerous world-changing events. As a creator, J. is a recent 2021-2022 Jerome Fellow and is a 2022/2023 Movement Research Artist in Residence. J. Bouey was also recently a Gibney 2021 Spotlight Artist, Artist-In-Residence at CPR – Center for Performance Research, and 2021 Bogliasco Fellow. J. was also a 2018 Movement Research Van Lier Fellow, and 2018 Dancing While Black Fellow. J. is currently a collaborator with nia love and a member of The ‘Fabulous’ Waack Dancers under the direction of Princess Lockerooo. They were also a former performer with Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company, danced with Germaul Barnes’ Viewsic Dance, Maria Bauman’s MB Dance, Dante Brown, Antonio Brown Dance, Christal Brown’s INspirit Dance, and apprenticed with Emerge 125 (formerly Elisa Monte Dance) under the artistic direction of Tiffany Rea-Fisher.
For this residency, J. Bouey will be collaborating with George Del Barrio. As a 1st-generation American and all-media Creative/ Technical Producer deeply versed in photographic physics, George Del Barrio’s practice is concentrated on archetype expansion. A resolute humanism informs each site-responsive design; every curatorial invention & environmental transformation is in search of duende… Meaning is not a discovery, it is a creation. Get down and dirty! Join the NYC Compost Project Hosted by Snug Harbor for a day of service at the Heritage Farm, where you’ll get hands-on experience at one of NYC’s only mid-scale composting sites. Volunteers will assist with compost sifting, compost spreading, weeding, and more!

Learn about soil health, urban farming, and waste diversion in the big city. We will be outside getting dirty and doing physical work. Wear clothes you do not mind getting dirty and bring a water bottle. This event will happen rain or shine.
The NYC Compost Project, created by the NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) in 1993, works to reduce waste in NYC and rebuild NYC’s soil by providing New Yorkers with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities they need to produce and use compost locally. NYC Compost Project programs and staff are funded and managed through the DSNY Bureau of Recycling and Sustainability (BRS) in partnership with host institutions.
Celebrate Black History Month through the timeless convocation of a historical Libation Ceremony to acknowledge our ancestors, as well as a drum circle by Greg Taylor. Then we’ll begin painting with soul, a self-guided paint project with Universal Temple of the Arts. Please feel free to bring your own drum or percussion instrument to join the community and experience the blessing of the African diaspora. Light refreshments will be served.

Set on a woolly mammoth dig-site in the heart of Texas at magic hour, a young family excavates their sordid history in the pursuit of a new future. Once a mysterious visitor arrives, the family is forced to acknowledge the truths of who they’ve become while mourning the loss of who they were.
