Snug Harbor is located at 1000 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island, NY 10301
Use your debit card or OMNY pass to take any of these MTA public transit options to lower Manhattan:
- 1 train to South Ferry OR
- 4/5 train to Bowling Green OR
- R/W train to Whitehall OR
- M15 Select Bus Service
Exit and walk south to the Staten Island Ferry – Whitehall Terminal. You will see “Staten Island Ferry” in large letters on the exterior of the building. The Staten Island Ferry is run by the NYC Department of Transportation, is free of charge, and runs every half hour. View the Staten Island Ferry schedule.
After landing in the St George Terminal on Staten Island, take any of the buses from Ramp D to Snug Harbor (10-minute ride):
- S40 bus: Exit at the Sailor’s Snug Harbor Gate stop on Richmond Terrace to enter the North Gate
- S40 bus: Exit at the Snug Harbor Road East or Snug Harbor Road West stops on Richmond Terrace to enter the West Gate
- S44 bus: Exit at the Lafayette Ave/Fillmore Street stop on Lafayette Ave to enter the East Gate
- S44 bus: Exit at the Henderson Ave/Westbury Ave stop on Henderson Ave to enter the South Gate
The NYC Ferry is a privately operated ferry service connecting Staten Island with the other NYC boroughs. Purchase tickets via their app or on-site kiosk to take the NYC Ferry.
The St. George NYC Ferry dock is located behind the SIUH Community Park baseball stadium on 75 Richmond Terrace, where Wall Street meets the waterfront. Travel to the St George, Staten Island dock from any of these NYC Ferry locations:
- Wall Street/Pier 11 (Manhattan)
- Midtown/West 39th Street (Manhattan)
- Battery Park City/Vesey St (Manhattan)
- Atlantic Ave/Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 6 (Brooklyn)
- Bay Ridge (Brooklyn)
After docking in St. George, we recommend taking the S40 or S44 MTA bus as described above.
From the Goethals Bridge: Take 278 East or take the Outerbridge Crossing to 440 North, following signs to the Verrazzano Bridge/278 East. Get off 278 East at the exit marked Richmond Road/Clove Road. (Do not take the Richmond Avenue exit). Take the service road to the first light, make a left, and follow Clove Road to Richmond Terrace. Make a right on Richmond Terrace and follow it until you come to Snug Harbor, which is on the right and marked by a black cast iron fence and magnificent pillared buildings at Snug Harbor Road. Turn right and you will see the entrance gate on your left-hand side. Follow the signs for parking.
From the Bayonne Bridge: Take the first exit (Richmond Terrace). Make a right at the top of the exit ramp onto Richmond Terrace. The Terrace snakes around a bit, following the shore of the Kill Van Kull. Go about 3 – 4 miles, you will see Snug Harbor on the right. It is just past the Mobile gas station and a restaurant on the left called Blue.
By car from Brooklyn, Queens, and Long Island: Take the lower level of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge; stay on the right, and exit at Bay Street. Take the Bay Street exit service road to Bay Street. Make a left and follow Bay Street past the Staten Island Ferry Terminal, where Bay Street becomes Richmond Terrace. Follow Richmond Terrace about one mile to Tysen Street. Make a left on Tysen Street, and then the next right on Fillmore Street, and enter the parking lot immediately to the left of the gated entrance. Parking will be right after the gate on the left-hand side.
By car from Brooklyn Battery Tunnel: To BQE West. Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge to Staten Island Expwy (I-278). Get off at Clove/Richmond Road exit (#13). At the third intersection, bear right onto Clove Road. Continue to Bement Avenue (you will see a cemetery), and turn right onto Bement Ave. Continue to Richmond Terrace. Make a right onto Richmond Terrace to Snug Harbor. Make a quick right at the Snug Harbor sign and then a quick left through the brick gatehouse.
