DIY Artist Residencies
Flexible, self-directed space to develop new work through low-cost, short-term rentals.
Whether you’re an individual artist or a traveling arts organization, DIY Residencies are built to remove traditional barriers to access and put you in the driver’s seat. You’re invited to shape a residency experience that fits your creative needs, timeline, and way of working, with flexibility at the center.
DIY Residencies are available to both visual and performing artists, based on venue availability, and offer short-term access to studios, on-site housing, rehearsal rooms, research spaces, and the expansive Snug Harbor grounds. Residencies are offered at a subsidized rate, thoughtfully scaled to your project’s scope and practical considerations such as seasonality, space selection, and duration—making it easier to focus on what matters most: your work.
How DIY Residencies work
Dance/NYC’s New York City Rehearsal Space Subsidy Program
The Dance/NYC’s New York City Rehearsal Space Subsidy Program is made possible by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, is an exciting program which makes affordable rehearsal space available at discounted rates to dance makers whose previous dance work has been publicly presented. In a city where artists are in critical need of affordable space for the creation and development of their work, this program also fosters a more inclusive and fair dance field, with a focus on accessibility, geography, and the demographics of artists served.
Dance makers interested in applying for use of subsidized space should fill out this form to be considered. Our staff will follow up with you within 1-3 business days of receipt. For inquiries, contact Adrianna Lombardi at [email protected] or 718.425.3572
