At Snug Harbor, we’re here to support artists at different moments in your creative journey—whether you’re looking for a long-term artistic home or a focused period of exploration. Through our Visual and Performing Arts Studios and our short-term Artist Residencies, we offer time, space, and community to help your work grow. Together, these two programs create a living ecosystem where sustained practice and bold experimentation thrive side by side.

Artists in our Visual and Performing Arts Studios make Snug Harbor their creative home year-round, with access to affordable, dedicated workspace. Your ongoing presence is the heart of our campus. You bring continuity, depth, and vision, developing ambitious work over time and becoming part of the everyday rhythms of the site. As a studio artist, you’re deeply woven into the cultural life of Snug Harbor—building long-term projects, exchanging ideas with fellow artists, and contributing to a shared creative community.

Our short-term Artist Residencies, by contrast, invite artists and arts organizations to join the Snug Harbor community for immersive, time-based residencies. These residencies are designed for experimentation, research, and site-responsive creation—offering space to test ideas, take risks, and follow new directions. Short-term residents bring fresh perspectives and energy to the campus, and their work often unfolds in dialogue with the public through open studios, performances, presentations, and community engagement.

Together, our long-term studios and short-term residencies form a vibrant continuum of artistic life at Snug Harbor. One is rooted in sustained practice and history; the other is energized by discovery and immediacy. Here, you’re invited to slow down, dig deep, and create with intention—supported by the time, space, and community needed to imagine, build, and share your work.
