PASS: The Outer Borough Project by Julie Maniscalco

“The Outer Borough Project” is the workshop performance of a new suite written for jazz ensemble by Staten Island native Julie Maniscalco. It explores the life and influences as a Staten Islander and is reflective of the diverse communities, this new musical work explores musical genres from Afro-Latin, rock, hip hop, chamber classical in a contemporary jazz setting, featuring an ensemble of other local musicians.

Join us for pre-performance refreshments beginning at 1 PM. The performance starts promptly at 2 PM and will be followed by a brief Q & A with the artists.

About Julie Maniscalco
Staten Island based composer, trumpet player and music educator Julie Maniscalco has earned many achievements since her 2021 compositional debut including: performances of her music at Carnegie Hall (“Songbird of Hoyt” performed by the Susan E. Wagner High School Jazz Band; “Medusa” commissioned & performed by the ISO Symphonic Band, June 2023); winning the 2023 Jazz WaHi Composition Contest, earning a commission for “State of Affairs” Suite (world premiere at the 2024 Washington Heights Jazz Festival by the Julie Maniscalco Septet); and special judge’s selection for Ithaca College’s 2022 Jazz Composition Contest for her piece “Deflated”. She has also been awarded several local grants including the 2023 Arts Fund Grant for her debut performance project, Julie Maniscalco Dectet: Terroir Live!, the 2023 Howard Gilman Performing Arts Cohort Grant, and the 2020 DCA Premier Grant for her debut project, Terror: Music for Jazz Orchestra. Most recently, she was awarded an additional commission as Artist in Residence for the ISO Symphonic Band for their 2023-24 season, with its world premiere at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall on 6/2/24. She is a member of ASCAP and currently participates in the BMI Jazz Workshop.
