Snug Harbor is an expansive culture park on Staten Island where arts, nature, education, and history converge to offer dynamic programming, events, and festivals to our diverse community. Located less than 1.5 miles from the Staten Island Ferry and easily accessible by public transportation, Snug Harbor welcomes nearly 500,000 visitors each year. Visitors can explore multiple museums, performances, festivals, a farm, and 83 acres of gardens, parkland, woodland, and wetlands.
Founded in 1976 as a nonprofit organization, Snug Harbor is one of the largest adaptive reuse projects in America, transforming a 19th-century charitable rest home for sailors into a vibrant hub of contemporary culture and community connection. Today, Snug Harbor’s mission is dedicated to creating a vibrant culture park in Staten Island offering arts, nature, history, education and events for all.
THE POSITION
The Event Services Associate ensures smooth and enjoyable events at Snug Harbor. This role involves key responsibilities such as traffic and crowd control, event setup and breakdown, and providing exceptional guest support. Success in this position requires attention to detail, a proactive attitude, and the ability to work collaboratively with event staff to maintain an organized and welcoming environment.
This position reports to the Senior Manager, Events & Business Services. Shifts are part-time and seasonally active. Shifts are most frequent May through November.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Event Preparation and Operations
- Become well-acquainted with event specifics, including event name, client, schedule, and other pertinent information.
- Assist with vendor load-in and load-out on campus, ensuring smooth and efficient processes.
- Support Event Partnerships Manager and the Security Department in managing closed roads during events, redirecting traffic as necessary and distinguishing event staff from attendees.
- Be well-versed in campus locations (bathrooms, gardens, buildings) to provide clear directions to clients and guests.
- Set up and break down event equipment such as tables, chairs, and garbage bins; assist clients with set up as needed.
- Communicate event updates—such as capacity, parking, or minor guest issues—to the Event Partnerships Manager and staff using walkie-talkies.
- Perform regular garbage pickups during events and dispose of trash in the closest designated dumpster at the end of the event.
- Willingness to adapt to evolving priorities, take on diverse tasks, and contribute to team success through flexibility and collaboration.
Guest Support and Safety
- Offer friendly and accurate directions and assistance to event attendees and clients.
- Serve as a point of contact for clients, ensuring their needs are met and their events run smoothly.
- Document and report any incidents or accidents immediately to Rangers (Security) and the Event Partnerships Manager.
- Familiarize yourself with emergency procedures, such as fire safety protocols and responses to guest health issues.
Post-Event Cleanup and Reporting
- Direct guests toward parking lots and exits to ensure smooth departures after events.
- Break down event setups, return all equipment to its designated storage location, and ensure event spaces are clear and organized.
- Report maintenance, repair, or inventory needs observed during events to ensure equipment remains in good condition.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Customer Service: Friendly and outgoing personality to engage effectively with visitors.
- Tech Savvy: Proficient in using walkie-talkies, texting, and basic internet navigation.
- Assertive and able to confidently use scripted responses when necessary.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, such as lifting up to 50 lbs and standing or walking for extended periods, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of working independently and collaboratively.
- Clear, confident communication skills and the ability to engage with diverse audiences.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Complete a site-specific F-03 Certification (Fire guard) within 3 months of hire

$17.00 per hour
