Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden Launches Cottage Row Curiosities

A new series of experiential artist markets that go above and beyond handcrafted goods

March 16, 2021 | Staten Island, NY – Cottage Row Curiosities is more than your typical artist market.

Sure, at the inaugural April 10 event on Cottage Row at Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden, open from 12 PM – 6 PM, attendees can “shop the Row” from over two dozen vendors sourced directly from Snug Harbor’s community of artists and entrepreneurs. Most of the diverse housewares, jewelry, art, and cosmetics products on sale are handmade or locally sourced.

But it doesn’t stop there: Cottage Row Curiosities gives visitors an immersive cultural and shopping experience that only Snug Harbor can provide.

For the $5 general admission price, attendees will get discounted admission to the uniquely beautiful New York Chinese Scholar’s Garden, right at its springtime peak. Music from MakerPark Radio’s Kitty the Disc Jockey and pop-up performances from the Staten Island Philharmonic will fill the space with good vibes. Food and drinks will be on sale from Harbor Eats and Relish Caterers.  Kids can take part in free crafts with Art by Melanie, and families can follow up their shopping with a trip to the Staten Island Museum (Building A) and Noble Maritime Collection (Building D) on Snug Harbor’s campus—both free to Cottage Row Curiosities ticketholders.

Best of all, the markets will continue throughout 2021, with the next dates tentatively planned for June 12 and August 14, and will feature a different lineup of vendors and entertainment each time, giving visitors a reason to come back again and again. The event series was born of the massive success of December 2020’s Cottage Row Holiday Market, a socially distant celebration of the Staten Island community’s resilience and close-knit support.

“We’re thrilled to activate Cottage Row again this year and welcome our friends and neighbors back to Snug Harbor, right in time for spring,” said Aileen Fuchs, President & CEO of Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden. “These exciting market experiences give visitors more ways than ever to rediscover what they love about Snug Harbor.”

About Snug Harbor

Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden is an urban oasis where art, history and nature converge. We offer dynamic programming in the arts, horticulture and agriculture for diverse communities and all ages, on our historic 83-acre campus. We envision being a locally impactful, globally renowned destination, true to our values of artistic vibrancy and community, inclusion and discovery, stewardship and conservation.

Snug Harbor is the result of more than four decades of restoration and development to convert a 19th-century charitable rest home for sailors into a regional arts center, botanical gardens and public park.  One of the largest ongoing adaptive reuse projects in America, Snug Harbor encompasses 26 historic structures, 14 botanical gardens, a 2.5-acre urban farm, wetlands, forests and park land on a free, open campus.  Learn more about Snug Harbor at snug-harbor.org.
