Anticipated partial Chapel Road closures starting in June 2026: Mon – Fri, 7 AM – 3:30 PM
Please be aware that due to infrastructure repairs by the NYC Department of Design and Construction, we anticipate partial closures of Chapel Road from 7 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday, starting in June 2026 through mid-2027.
We would like to provide advance notice of an upcoming DDC infrastructure project related to the HVAC system, anticipated to begin sometime in June. While a confirmed start date is not yet available, we expect to receive approximately one week’s notice before work begins.
Once the project starts, the following temporary parking and road access changes will be in effect:
Closures:
- The parking lot behind Building L will be closed
- Chapel Road will be closed in the middle, in front of Building L, from 7 AM – 3:30 PM Monday to Friday
- The roadway from Chapel Road to Building P (behind the SICM and Building L) will also be closed
- Access may be available only for emergency-response vehicles
The project will:
- Replace an aging, damaged, and obsolete site-wide heating and cooling system.
- Replace steam pipes between Building L and all served buildings.
- Replace pumps within served buildings to improve climate control.
- Replace interior steam pipes within served buildings, including the addition of two radiators to each attic to protect wet sprinkler systems.
- Replace the existing chiller with a modular multi-unit system with at least four 200-ton capacity chillers with a gas-fired absorption system.
- Replace the cooling towers.
- Connect the ground floors of Buildings B and C to the central air conditioning plant.
